'It's around the clock work'

(LIN) - Two manatee calves are getting a second chance after rough beginnings.

These vulnerable marine mammals were found swimming alone in Key Largo before being rescued and taken in at the Miami Seaquarium.

Baby Rae, a miniature female manatee, was found in July. Without a mother to take care, Seaquarium keepers quickly took over parental duties.

Jodi Tuzinski, Miami Seaquarium Keeper says it isn’t an easy job.

"It's around the clock work with her, “ says Tuzinski.  “In the beginning I would not be able to sit here and have her just come over to me but now she's more comfortable with me being in the pool. She comes over and she just nuzzles with her muzzle."

Rae isn’t the only one at Club Rehab.

Gentle giant Pilgrim was spotted and rescued right before Thanksgiving.

Pilgrim was hit by a boat and one of his ribs is broken, which tore the lung. He’s healing quickly, thanks to the care of the keepers at Seaquarium.

Tuzinski says the keepers are there for the manatees best interests, helping them to heal, an arduous process.

"You can't even fathom that they're going to live through it,” says Tuzinksi. “Then they do and are able to be released again so it's pretty amazing."
