Baby born during traffic stop

Baby delivered two blocks from hospital

(CNN) - A Cedar Rapids baby boy will have quite the story to tell when he's older.

The newborn was born in the car after a police officer pulled over his parents for speeding.

"Oh my God, he's here, he's here," you can hear Ashley Rathjen exclaim on the officer's dash-cam video.

Ashley and her husband Tyler were trying to make it to the hospital before baby Owen was born, but didn't make it. Tyler finally stopped at a red light, and that's when Ashley delivered the baby - two blocks from the hospital.

"In the midst of Tyler getting out of the car and talking to the officer, I delivered in the car as they came around."

The new father and Officer Kevin Wolfe wrapped the newborn up and made sure he wasn't in any immediate danger.

"His brothers were worried it was going to take a long time for him to get here, and it didn't," Ashley said.

The Rathjens said they were moving fast to get to the hospital - just not fast enough for baby Owen.
