Schools, businesses delayed as snow blankets the Valley

Commuters who started out early Monday morning set out on wet and slushy roads across the Miami Valley. In some areas the roads were treated and wet, while in the northern counties travel was an entirely different story. 

2 NEWS' Brooke Moore was in Troy early Monday morning where she measured just over 2 inches of snow. Meanwhile, viewers have reported as much as 8 inches in Greenville and 4.5 inches in Kettering. 

"The snow is heavy and is compacting," Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Jamie Jarosik explained, "So, snowfall at your house might have been 6 inches, but only measures 4 inches."

Even though the heaviest of the snow has already fallen, a Winter Storm Warnings is in effect  for the entire Miami Valley until 2 p.m. Monday.  We could see an additional 1 to 2 inches by the end of the day.

The bulk of the snow fell late Sunday night and early Monday morning. The wet, heavy snow quickly accumulated on area roadways, but road crews on standby were quick to plow and most roads are relatively clear for the morning commute.

Snow Emergencies
County administrators have issued the following snow emergencies in the following counties:

• Champaign - Level 1 
• Darke - Level 2
• Logan - Level 1
• Mercer - Level 2
• Montgomery - Level 1
• Preble - Level 1
• Wayne, Ind. - Level 1

A  Level 1 Snow Emergency means roadways are hazardous and drivers should use caution. A  Level 2 Snow Emergency means only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be on the roads.
