OSU marching band: How'd they do that?

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WDTN) - The hottest music video on YouTube these days is not Justin Bieber or a rapper from South Korea.

It is the Ohio State University marching band's half-time show during the OSU/Nebraska game.

The "best damn band" in the land is pretty darn popular on the web right now.

The Ohio State marching band's tribute to video games at half-time of the recent Nebraska game has become a runaway viral sensation with more than 11 million hits on YouTube and counting.

"What gave it it's international legs is the gaming community picked up on it," said Jon Waters, OSU Band Director.

Amazingly, the band members had only one week to learn the music and complex routine that pays homage to all the video game classics like Super Mario Bros., Space Invaders, Halo, Pacman, Tetris, Pokemon and many others.

"Because of Twitter and Facebook and all the different social media, that's really what's exploded this one as opposed to different shows in the past," said Tyler Johnson, Brookville.

The night's best run down the field was by the horse from The Legend of Zelda.

"People hadn't seen that before, they were shocked by it, I think," said Waters.

The Ohio State marching band takes to the field again at half-time this Saturday for the game against Purdue.
