DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - There are just four days to go until Reds pitchers and catchers report to spring training and we are 62 days away from the Dragons home opener on April 11.  But, first things first.

The Dayton Dragons welcomed their new manager Friday afternoon at Fifth Third Field.

Jose Nieves, 37, becomes the seventh manager in Dragons history replacing Delino DeShields who was promoted to the Reds AA affiliate in Pensacola.

Jose Nieves managed the Reds Arizona-league club the past two seasons and spent one year as the manager of the Reds affiliate in the Venezuelan summer league.

As a shortstop and second baseman, Nieves spent five years in the majors, including three seasons with the Cubs.  He also won a World Series ring with the 2002 Anaheim Angels.

Jose Nieves will be assisted by hitting coach Alex Pelaez and pitching coach Tony Fossas.
