PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) — Oscar Pistorius (pihs-TOHR'-ee-uhs) has been released from jail. The magistrate in South Africa set bail at 1 million rand, or $113,000. Pistorius' next court day is set for June 4.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Lance Armstrong now has to face the U.S. government. Lawyers for the disgraced cyclist say the Justice Department is joining one of his former racing teammates in suing him for using performance-enhancing drugs during the Tour de France, while racing for the U.S. Postal Service team.
CHICAGO (AP) — Brandon Saad scored a short-handed goal at 2:24 of the third period to snap a 1-1 tie and give the Chicago Blackhawks a record-setting 2-1 win over San Jose. The Blackhawks improved to 14-0-3, breaking the NHL mark for most consecutive games without a regulation loss to start a season. The 2006-07 Anaheim Ducks went their first 16 games without a regulation loss.
MARANA, Ariz. (AP) — Bubba Watson is the lone top-10 seed remaining in the Match Play Championship in Arizona following yesterday's losses by third seed Luke Donald, No. 4 Louis Oosthuizen (WUHST'-hy-zen) and No. 5 Justin Rose. The eighth-seeded Watson played the longest match of the day, needing 22 holes to beat fellow American Jim Furyk and advance to the third round. Scott Piercy knocked out Donald 7 and 6, Robert Garrigus ousted Ooshuizen 3 and 2 and Nicolas Colsaerts beat Rose 4 and 2.
BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Ravens have announced that center Matt Birk has decided to retire. He played in the NFL for 15 seasons. Ravens coach John Harbaugh says the 34-year-old played the best of his four seasons in Baltimore this past year with the club that won the Super Bowl.
