PHILADELPHIA PA. (WDTN) -
Vee Sanford and Dyshawn Pierre each scored 13 points, but the Dayton Flyers fell on the road 72-70 to the La Salle Explorers.
Kevin Dillard scored all 12 of his points from beyond the arc and in the second half as the Flyers dropped to 0-3 in conference play and 10-7 overall. UD had not started Atlantic 10 play 0-3 since the 2005-06 season.
Four of Dayton's seven losses this season have come by a total of six points.
Dillard had a chance to win the game with a three-pointer as time expired, but hit off the back iron. He went 4-of-6 from three-point range.
Dayton out-rebounded La Salle 35-21, but turnovers proved to be too much for Dayton to overcome. UD committed 24 turnovers.
La Salle improved to 12-4 and 2-1 in the A-10. The Explorers were nearly flawless at the free throw line hitting 15-of-17 attempts.
Meanwhile, the Flyers shot 49 percent from the floor and 47 percent from beyond the arc.
Pierre not only scored in double figures for the second straight game, but he was also one rebound away again from a double-double.
Other contributors for Dayton included Josh Benson with eight points and five rebounds, and Devin Oliver with eight points as well. Sanford shot 5-of-9 from the floor, while Pierre went 5-for-8.
Dayton returns home to face the Fordham Rams on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. ET.
