FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - Walkers and runners from across the state of Ohio will lace up for a statewide walk or run the second weekend in July in support of Greene County's Michael's House Child Advocacy Center and the Ohio Network of Children's Advocacy Centers. Michael's House provides supportive services to approximately 250 abused children in Greene County each year.
Children's Advocacy Centers utilize a multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the investigation, advocacy and medical services for child sexual abuse and serious physical abuse cases. The multidisciplinary team consists of representatives from law enforcement, Children Services, the Children's Advocacy Center, medical and mental health services. The coordination of efforts minimizes the trauma experienced by the child and non-offending family members.
The inaugural Champions4Children walk will raise funds through registrations, pledges and sponsorships for the five local Children's Advocacy Centers in Ohio participating in the walk/run, but will also support the state chapter which serves a total of 25 centers in Ohio. Teams of local businesses, schools, churches, community groups and families raise funds - prior to and at the event - to help support the Children's Advocacy Center of Greene County. This year's event in Greene County will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 9 at Fairborn High School Memorial Stadium Buschemeyer Field. Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m.
Numerous walkers plan to attend the Walk in support of Michael's House Child Advocacy Center, ONCAC and the children of Ohio. Anyone interested in forming a team or learning more is encouraged to log on to www.oncac.org or to call Michael's House at 937-318-1660 for registration and team building information.
