Carl's Coats for Kids campaign needs your help

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Cooler temperatures are a good reminder to dig out your winter coat, but thousands in the Miami Valley don't have one.

You can change that by helping with our annual Carl's Coats for Kids campaign.

The need this year is greater than ever, but donations are down. There is an extra need this year for children's coats.

We normally have as many as 5,000 coats by now, but we are nowhere near that mark.

So we are asking for your help.

"We do have some time and we want to get out the message now that we need this last push to make sure that very needy person in the Miami Valley that needs one has one," said Lisa Barhorst, V.P. and General Manager of WDTN/WBDT.

You can take any washable coat to any location of our corporate sponsors.

"They can get involved by dropping off a coat to any of the sponsors to Jeff Schmitt Auto Group locations and Huntington Bank locations or any Handyman Ace Hardware location."

You can even drop off your coats here at our station in Moraine at 4595 South Dixie Drive during regular business hours.

We're also asking any churches or community based organizations to get involved. You can call us at 293-2101 for more information.

Collection containers are out at several Handyman Ace Hardware, Huntington Bank, and Jeff Schmitt Auto Group locations.

Volunteers are also needed to help sort the coats. The first date for sorting is October 27th. For more information on volunteering, contact Marty O'Dell at Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley at 528-6371.

Carl's Coats for Kids is in its 28th year of giving. We donated more than 4,300 coats last year and we want to top that number.
