Panther on the prowl in Harrison Township

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - If you believe all the sightings, there is a panther on the prowl in Harrison Township.

New sightings Monday brought out a famed exotic animal expert and park rangers.

A woman dialed 911 Monday morning and said she saw the big cat near the intersection of Frederick Pike and Rivers Edge Boulevard.

A full grown male panther can be 7 to 8 feet long, 150 to 200 pounds and can leap more than 20 feet at a time, so this is a dangerous animal.

According to reports, the panther was eating something at the time.

"If you do see the cat, please do not run unless you're standing right in front of your house because if you run it's going to trigger the natural instinct of the cat to chase you and knock you down," said Tim Harrison, exotic animal expert.

Panthers are one of the best selling exotic animals in Ohio.

They are native to Asia and Africa.
