DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A woman is dead and a man injured after their car crashed into a piece of construction equipment at Hoover and Goodlow avenues in Dayton.

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office identified the woman was Qadriyyah Harvey, 33, of Trotwood.

It happened at approximately 8:45 Saturday night.

According to police, the portion of Hoover Avenue was closed for construction. Investigators do not know why the pair attempted to drive through the closed zone.

Police say the man was driving. He was transported to Miami Valley Hospital in critical condition.

Harvey was sitting in the front passenger seat. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Residents living nearby the construction site told 2News motorists continued to pass through the roadway since it was closed in July.

Police want to remind motorists it is illegal to pass through a road closure sign.
