Northeast Ohio airport lands grant to aid service

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) - A northeast Ohio airport has landed a federal grant that restores an earlier funding cut by Washington.

The U.S. Department of Transportation took the remaining portion of a $575,000 Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport grant in February but restored it with a $780,000 grant.

The Vindicator newspaper in Youngstown reports the money will be used to help restore daily air service to a hub airport in the Midwest or East Coast.

The airport's main service currently is to vacation destinations in Florida and Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The grant must be matched with about $420,000 in local funds. It can be used to subsidize airline service that is not self-supporting right away.
