OXFORD, Ohio (WDTN) - The Miami University marching band will perform in the 2013 Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C.
The band is among the first group of participants announced by the Presidential Inaugural Committee.
"The talented groups chosen to participate in the Inaugural Parade reflect the spirit, values and diversity of our great nation,” said President Obama. “Vice President Biden and I are honored to have them join us in the parade.”
Miami University submitted an online application back in November.
More than 2,800 applications were submitted for consideration. That is more than double the number who applied to appear in President Obama's first Inaugural Parade.
The parade originates back to the inauguration of George Washington in 1789.
