Mercer Co. fire company awarded federal grant

Funds to bolster firefighter safety in Mercer Co.

WASHINGTON (WDTN) - A Mercer County, Ohio fire department will benefit from new funding by the federal government.

The Chickasaw Community Mutual Fire Company was awarded $42,005 by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) program,  U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced Jan. 10.

The AFG program helps firefighters and other first responders purchase protective equipment, vehicles, and gear, according to FEMA.
