CLEVELAND (AP) - A 46-year-old Ohio businessman inspired by the service of others is heading to medical school to become a doctor working in an urban setting.
Bill Downing told The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer he felt the need to invest the rest of his active career in the betterment of the inner city.
Downing is a Harvard MBA and CEO of his own display and exhibit company, Downing Enterprises.
He says he'll enroll this fall in Cleveland State University's new joint program with Northeast Ohio Medical University to provide doctors in underserved urban neighborhoods.
Rev. Duane Crabbs is co-founder of South Street Ministries. He's worked with Downing for six years and calls him a man of humility and integrity. Crabbs said Downing understands it takes commitment to make a substantial impact.
