FRANKLIN, Ohio (WDTN) - The racing world watched as Danica Patrick secured the top spot at Daytona International Speedway Sunday.
Winning the pole for the 55th Daytona 500 made history in the male-dominated sport; however, more and more females are getting behind the wheel including local driver Sloan Henderson.
Henderson, a Franklin, Ohio native, dreams of one day racing alongside Patrick. The 20-year-old started racing at the age of 12, and just last year the former Arca driver raced at Daytona International Speedway.
Henderson has followed Patrick's career for years and considers her to be a role-model.
Patrick, the first woman to secure the top spot for any sprint cup race, talked about breaking gender barriers in a post-interview with CNN. Its a message Sloan said she fully supports.
"I believe you can do anything you set possible," said Henderson. "For instance, Danica winning the pole. In any sport, I believe if you set your mind to something you can accomplish anything."
The Great American Race is Sunday, February 24, 2013.
