Springboro man helps crash survivors

Warren County (WDTN) - When a Springboro man heard about a deadly Warren County crash, he decided to help.

"I was reading a couple different news stories and this one just hit me right in the face on Christmas Eve: parents die, four children orphaned," said Brian Morris.

Scott and Michele Barhorst, of Madisonville, Tennessee, were killed when their van was hit by a wrong-way driver on I-75, near Franklin, Sunday morning. Their four children, aged 8 to 18, survived.

"I want to do something to help out these kids because right now I'm sure they feel so alone," said Morris.

A 4-year-old boy in the other car lost his father and brother in the crash.

Morris wanted to help all five surviving victims. So after talking with both families, he set up an online account to collect donations.

"I decided to do this because I have two daughters of my own," said Morris. "I can only imagine, if something were to happen to me, I can only hope that someone would help me out the way I'm trying to help these kids out."

Morris hoped to raise $10,000 for five people he's never met.

"When it comes down to it, it doesn't matter because if we're helping each other out. I mean that's what we're all here to do and that's exactly what I wanted to do in this situation."
