WARREN COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) - An internationally-known author traveled halfway around the world to visit a Warren County YMCA camp.
Camp Kern hosts several literary-themed summer camps, including week-long sessions based on the "Ranger's Apprentice" series from Australia.
"From the moment the kids check in, through the whole seven days and six nights of camp, they are in that world of the book," said Executive Director Jeff Merhig.
2 NEWS was there Friday as the author, John Flanagan, took a tour of the nearly 500-acre camp, where his characters are brought to life for several weeks each summer.
"I had no idea that you were actually recreating and enacting so many parts of the Ranger legend, and I'm just stunned," said Flanagan. "I think it's fabulous, I wish I was a kid and I wish I could do it."
Flanagan also held a question and answer session with the staff and signed some books.
