SHELBY CO., Ohio (WDTN) - The Shelby County Sheriff's Department is making sure teachers and school administrators in its county are ready to handle any situation.
Shelby County Sheriff John Lenhart announced a concealed carry/firearms training course Tuesday for select teachers and administrators.
The participants will be selected and approved by local school boards.
The Sheriff's Office designed the 16-hour training course. It will consist of 12 hours of classroom instruction and 4 hours of firearms training.
The sheriff says training will include concealed carry weapons training, weapons safety and storage, tactics for handling weapons, dealing with suspects and basic gunshot first aid.
Three instructors with a combined 51-years experience will lead the instruction.
School administrators should contact Sheriff Lenhart at 937498-7833 to schedule training for the selected staff.
