DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Teachers at Horizon Science Academy could not have imagined that their day would have started out like this.

Jessica Flores, 20, went with her mother to drop her younger siblings off at the school in the 200 block of Shoup Mill Road when her water broke. School officials said Flores' mother went inside to get help, but by the time she made it back to the car, Flores had already delivered her baby girl by herself.

The school secretary called 911 and dispatchers instructed her on how to tie off the umbilical cord with a string.

Emergency crews had been dispatched to the scene, but according to Harrison Township Fire Department Chief Mark Lynch, those crews were tied up at a crash so Lynch arrived on his own. An ambulance later made it to the scene.

Flores and her baby girl were taken to Miami Valley Hospital and are doing well. The baby weighed in at 7 pounds 10 ounces, according to a school spokesman. Flores was six days away from her due date.
