OSP IDs 2 involved in chase and crash

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Two people were taken to a hospital after they crashed into a pole in Dayton early Friday morning.
Troopers told 2 NEWS they tried to pull the car over for speeding, as well as a tinted window violation, on US 35 near Gettysburg Avenue just before 3 a.m.
The driver sped off and ended up crashing into a utility pole on Upland Avenue.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers called Dayton police officers to help. They worked to get the two men inside the car to surrender, but because of the tinted windows did not allow for officers to see inside the car, they kept a safe distance.
Eventually police broke out the windows and took the driver and passenger into custody. Officers also found a loaded handgun, what they suspected to be heroin and marijuana, and $4835 in cash inside the car.
Medics took the driver, Robert A. Brooks, and the passenger, Ricky Rutledge Jr., both of Dayton, to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment.
Troopers said charges are pending further investigation.
