DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Vectren is warning its customers about a billing payment hoax.

A company spokesman says customers are getting phone calls from someone claiming to be with Vectren.

The caller claims their gas service will be cut off if the person doesn't pay their bill within the hour.

Customers are then told to purchase a prepaid debit card and call back and make the payment.

Vectren says don't do it.  Vectren says it does not accept prepaid debit cards and would never require someone to buy one.

Call Vectren's customer service line at 1-800-227-1376 if you receive such a call.
