UD fraternity suspended for misconduct

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A fraternity at the University of Dayton has been suspended for two years for misconduct.

University officials said the Sigma Chi fraternity was the subject of an investigation and hearing over a Nov. 17 incident of disorderly conduct at a gas station in Madison County, Ohio. No arrests were made, and the Madison County prosecutor did not bring charges against any individuals.

Under the suspension, the fraternity may not live in a special-interest house or engage in any activities, including organizational meetings, events or gatherings. The 60 member fraternity has been fined $200 for damages and must perform community service in Madison County.

In order to gain reinstatement, university officials said the fraternity must submit a plan of action on how the group will remain in good standing, as well as commit to being alcohol free for the first year.

The fraternity has the right to appeal the decision.

Members of the fraternity told 2News Reporter Alexa Ashwell, "no comment" when asked if they plan to appeal the University's ruling.
