TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) - The Trotwood Police Department is now considered one of the best departments in the country.

The department was awarded advanced reaccreditation at a law enforcement conference in Arizona July 21st.

The distinction of accreditation with excellence makes the officers among the best.

The department underwent an intensive review and passed with high marks.

The Trotwood Police Department has been accredited since 2003.

It met all the required standards for police departments.

Of the over 17,000 police departments in the United States, only 10% are accredited and just 47 have received the honor of receiving CALEA’s Accreditation with Excellence.

The five other departments in Ohio that have received this distinction are the Ohio State Highway Patrol/Public Safety, City of Columbus Police Department, Dublin Police Department, German Township Police Department and Fairfield Police Department.
