DAYTON (WDTN) - It's been 2 days since cousins, A'lonta Culpepper and Briona Rodgers, were shot inside a house on Home Avenue in Dayton.

At last check, Culpepper was still in the hospital and was struggling to survive. Rodgers died at the scene.

The senseless shooting of the two teens has shaken not only the community. but the schools where they girls were enrolled.

Briona was in the 8th grade at City Day Charter in Downtown Dayton. The school was closed on Monday, so that students and staff could grieve in private, but resumed on Tuesday.

The school principal told 2 NEWS they had 5 to 8 counselors on hand throughout the day for anyone who needed to talk and some classes spent time making cards for the Briona's family.

Briona was said to be a great kid and  was always willing to give a hug.

She enrolled in City Day last spring, but before that spent time at Kettering Middle School.

KMS school officials told 2 NEWS they made grief counselors available to Briona's former classmates on Monday.

A'lonta is enrolled in the 8th grade at Wogaman Elementary in Dayton, although Dayton Public School officials tell us she does mostly home instruction.

DPS officials added they are monitoring the situation.
