DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - While a blizzard is barreling down on the Northeast, people right here in the Miami Valley are being impacting.
More than 3,000 flights have already been canceled across the nation and that number is expected to keep growing.
"Our travel agents have kept an eye on it throughout the day. We're starting to see more cancelations now than we did earlier in the day," says Cindy Antrican, spokesperson for AAA of the Miami Valley.
If you're planing on flying in the next few days, AAA of the Miami Valley urges you to check with your airline carrier before you leave.
"You have to remember too that maybe you're not flying to a city that's impacted. But, if your flight goes through that city, you will be impacted by the snowstorm," explains Antrican.
Dayton's Women's Basketball Team is already feeling the effects of the snowstorm. The team is scheduled to play Fordham in New York Sunday and travel plans have already changed several times in the past 24 hours.
"It's been a little confusing, a little hectic, hearing that we have practice, no practice, getting on a bus, getting on a plane. So, it was something different every ten minutes," comments Amber Deane.
The basketball team boarded a bus this evening to head to Dayton International Airport for a flight to Philadelphia.
From there, the team was going to take a bus to New York City. But, the bus company has since halted all travel due to the blizzard.
So, the team is now scheduled to fly from Cincinnati to JFK tomorrow morning.
"It's been very crazy. Flying last night to flying today to driving back to flying. We've been in the weather before, not too worried about that. Now, we're just trying to get there and take care of business," explains Sam Mackay.
If you think you might be in the clear because your flight doesn't leave until Monday or Tuesday, you might not be so lucky.
Experts say depending on how bad the snowstorm is, there may be a back log of flights for the next week or so. So, make sure that you check with your carrier before you head to the airport.
