VANDALIA, Ohio (WDTN) - "There's a lot of things going well and there's a lot not," said Terry Slaybaugh, Director of Aviation for the City of Dayton.

Traffic was down at Dayton International.  Airport director Terry Slaybaugh said crews were up all night clearing the runways, but there were fewer planes to use them.

"Usually we would have 18 to 20 airplanes leave in the first two hours, and this morning only eight airplanes on the ground when I got here, but we didn't have a lot of people so the airlines did a great job of letting people know that their flights were canceled this morning," said Slaybaugh.

With regulations now in place to keep airlines from holding passengers on planes for hours,  Slaybaugh said they're more likely to cancel flights ahead of time.

Slaybaugh told 2 NEWS, "What we're seeing more and more is  the airlines are preempting these storms and doing wholesale cancellations of service,  which is good people get advanced notice that they're not going to go, but it still disrupts a lot of commerce in the United States."
