Man beaten with pipe shares account

KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) - A man is recovering after police said he was a victim of road rage.

Kristopher Dalton, 22, said he was traveling north on south Dixie drive, near the intersection of Dorothy Ln., Wednesday evening when he noticed an erratic driver in the car before him.

"I was trying to get close enough to see his license plate and report it to police," said Dalton. "He began "break-checking" me, then got out of his car."

Dalton said he got out of his truck when he noticed the suspect quickly went back to his car and retrieved a weapon.

"In that moment, I thought he was pulling out a gun," said Dalton.  "It ended up being a long pipe."

Dalton proved no match for the pipe.  He suffered severe lacerations to his head, as well as cuts to his ear and hand.

"I have two staples in my  head," said Dalton.

Dalton said he was able to get the pipe away from the suspect.  A good samaritan also helped end the violent attack.  The Kettering man wished to remain anonymous, but said he, "Would have done it for anyone."

"But not anyone would help a stranger like that," said Dalton, who is thankful the man came to his rescue."

The suspect fled the scene; however, witnesses and calls to 911 led police to Tyler Dieterle, 31, of Miami Township. Dieterle was arrested and is facing three counts of felonious assault.
