DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A Dayton Police officer shot a robbery suspect Thursday morning after a short chase on Dayton's west side.

Dayton Chief of Police Richard Biehl told 2 NEWS that at 10:28 a.m., two uniformed officers spotted a stolen car that was used in a March 20 armed robbery of the Wendy's on Edwin C. Moses Blvd.

The car, with two occupants, sped off and the officers gave chase.  Just two minutes later, the car crashed into a fence at 918 Stoltz Ave.

Biehl said when both suspects emerged from the car, the passenger was holding a gun. That's when one of the officers fired one shot, striking the armed suspect in the hand.

The driver surrendered without any further incident.

The suspect shot was taken to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment.

Biehl did not release the names of the suspects or the offices involved.  He did say the shooting victim is 17-years-old and the driver is 21.  The police officer who fired his weapon is on paid administrative leave during the investigation.

No other injuries were reported form the shooting or the chase.

Biehl said detectives continue to investigate and is expected to hold a news conference with more information Friday afternoon.
