Rain means trouble for road crews

DAYTON, Ohio - The Ohio Department of Transportation has crews are ready to go to keep the roads clear for you.

"This is what we live for, most of us do anyway. It's exciting, it's a fun time of year," says ODOT driver Josh Powers.

But it's a dangerous job and Powers is asking for your help to stay safe.

"It can get nerve racking when you have cars pass you on both sides, you're going down the center lane of 75, some people don't slow down.  That's what we really ask a lot of people, you know, take it slow," asks Powers.

ODOT also asks that you give their trucks plenty of room on the roadways.

They will be working around the clock but crews are already experiencing some issues.

"This could pose a little bit of a problem in the fact that they're calling for some rain and the pavement is somewhat wet so it's not as easy to do any pre-treating because a lot of times you don't want to waste that and if you pretreat you could end up with it just being washed right back off.," explains ODOT District 7 Spokesperson Mandi Abner.
