State Rep. Clayton Luckie indicted on 49 counts

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WDTN) - State Representative, Clayton Luckie, D-Dayton, has been indicted on 49 counts of corruption and theft.

Luckie pleaded not guilty to the charges in court Wednesday and was released on a $10,000 recognizance bond.

Luckie is accused of transferring $130,000 in campaign funds to his personal checking account and the allegations go back to 2006 when Luckie first ran for office and is accused forging the signature of his campaign treasurer.

According to Edward J. Hanko, Special Agent in Charge of the Cincinnati Division of the FBI, and Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien, every campaign finance filing with the Secretary of State’s office filed by Luckie between 2006 and 2012 failed to accurately list expenditures made by his campaign committee.

Luckie is accused of using the diverted funds for hundreds of debit card transactions totaling almost $40,000, ATM withdrawals, including more than $1700 at casinos in Indiana, Florida, and W.Va., and making a payment to his home equity line of credit.

In the indictment, Luckie is charged with election falsification, tampering with evidence, tampering with records, money laundering, and theft in office. The indictment also  contains a charge of  engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, commonly referred to as a RICO charge.

Luckie is also accused of filing a false financial disclosure form with the General Assembly’s Joint Legislative Ethics Committee (JLEC) when he failed to list and disclose four separate loans of debts that exceeded $1,000.

The indictments were announced at a news conference Wednesday morning in Columbus.  

Luckie surrendered to the FBI in Columbus Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. According to WCMH-TV, Luckie collapsed while being booked into the Franklin County jail and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Luckie represents Dayton's 39th District and announced back in August that he would not seek re-election after an investigation was revealed.

Wednesday afternoon the Ohio Speaker of the House asked Luckie to resign.
