CENTERVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) - It's a day that still haunts those who knew them. April 1, 2010.  50-year-old Tom Hausfeld and his daughter 21-year-old Kacie Hausfeld were flying to Chicago to visit a family member for Easter when their plane had engine failure and crashed in Miami Township.

A tragic loss, loved ones are still trying to cope with.

"It still doesn't feel like it actually happened. It doesn't feel like, you kind of always feel like you'll still see her around," says friend Jessica Raffa

Jessica Raffa grew up with Kacie and there are things she will never forget about her friend.

"She was kind of the leader.  She was the funny one, but the one that everyone liked," explains Raffa.

Volleyball was a big part of Kacie's life, as well as her father Tom's life.  So, as a way to remember them, Raffa and some of Kacie's other friends decided to host the Kacie and Tom Hausfeld Memorial Volleyball Tournament.

"It started out as a healing process for some of us and just kind of dealing with the tragedy, with everything that's happened and I think it's kind of turned into a way to keep the memory of them with us," comments Raffa.

All of the proceeds from the tournament will go to the Kacie and Tom Hausfeld Scholarship Fund through the Dayton Foundation.  Organizers hope to exceed last year's total of $12,000.

"I think they would be proud. I think they would be happy that it's bringing so many different people together and helping somebody else," says Raffa.

The tournament will take place on July 22nd at South Metro Sports in Centerville.  But organizers still need help from donors and sponsors.
