Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) - Congressman Mike Turner released a statement Thursday, Feb. 14 that said, despite sequestration talks, an official request for proposals has been issued by the FAA meaning the next step towards the final selection of test sites is on track.

Turner is a member of the Congressional Unmanned Systems Caucus and said the 22 states vying for one of the six, highly-coveted test sites must now submit their specific site plans.

Turner said Ohio has teamed with Indiana to become a strong contender for a UAS test site which could provide a foothold in the emerging industry that is estimated to have a global impact that could top 100 billion dollars by 2020.

No word on when the FAA will make their final decision.
