TROTWOOD, Ohio (WDTN) - According to officials with the city of Dayton, the officer involved was working undercover for the FBI's Safe Streets Task Force. For that reason, the officer's name will not be released.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is investigating an officer involved shooting that happened in Trotwood at about 1 a.m. Saturday.
Jurisdictions from across Montgomery County rushed to the area of Salem Avenue and Wolf Road after a "Code 99" was broadcast. A code 99 means officer in trouble.
According to investigators, Trotwood police responded to reports of a fight outside Leo's II at 4155 Salem Avenue.
When they arrived, a foot pursuit ensued between Trotwood officers and a 21-year-old suspect.
Investigators said gunfire was exchanged near a neighboring business and both the 21-year-old suspect and an undercover Dayton Police officer were shot.
Both were rushed to Miami Valley Hospital and were last listed in serious but stable condition.
Investigators are not releasing the identities of the officer or suspect.
The incident remains under investigation.
