A mother's plea for justice

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - A Columbus woman is demanding justice.  Her son was gunned down in May 2010 in front of his two children.

"There's a hole right here in my heart you took my child," said Carol Gilmore, Corey Mitchell's mother.

Even three years later, a mother's pain is still fresh and real.  Her 34-year old son, Corey Mitchell, was ambushed and fatally shot outside his home in the 100 block of Paul Laurence Dunbar Street in Dayton.  His 11-year old twins were with him when it happened.  His daughter was also hit.

"Its been hard in counseling for 9 months,  Tryesha has a wound on her leg she'll never forget."

Because the gunman wore a mask and gloves, the children were unable to identify him, but police have still made significant progress in the case and are very close to bringing charges.  They just need that missing piece of the puzzle and Carol says someone has it.

"There was even someone who came up to me at his funeral, a young lady, and I plead to her to you because she and someone else knows something."

Carol has been in counseling as well and her therapist tells her that she, like all parents of murdered children, is now serving a life sentence.  She says it's time for someone else, to do the same.

"What kind of monster.  You hurt our whole family."
