DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Police say gunwielding bar patrons stopped EMTs from saving a club security guard's life early Friday morning.

It happened at the Vault nightclub on North Jefferson Street.

Authorities said medics arrived on the scene to try to help Willie Williams, 32, who collapsed.

Sergeant Aaron Fraley said this was a strange event.   "When the medics tried to force entry.  Several of the customers flashes hand guns in their waist bands, according to what the medics told us, which cause the medics to retreat for their safety rightfully to call us," said Fraley .

One man had to be tased to get him under control.  Brandon Smith, of Xenia now faces disorderly conduct and obstructing justice charges.

The coroner has yet to make an official ruling on Williams' cause of death.
