Whaley, a Democrat, made the announcement at a news conference, Monday, Dec. 3

"I have learned a lot during my time in public service, and I have learned a lot while serving two terms on the Dayton City Commission. I know this city has a rich history. I am running for mayor because I believe Dayton deserves an even richer future."
She will be challenging current Mayor Gary Leitzell and former judge A.J. Wagner, who announced in May his intent to run.
Whaley was first elected to the Dayton City Commission in 2005. She also served on the Montgomery County Board of Elections and as a deputy to Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith.
Whaley has her undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton and received a Master’s of Public Administration from Wright State University.
