Dayton, Ohio (WDTN) - Dayton City Commissioners are considering hiring a local company to provide aerial surveillance for Dayton police.

The $120,000 contract would be with Persistent Surveillance Systems with operations in Beavercreek, Xenia and downtown in Dayton's Tech Town.

PSS would be called into fly a small Cessna equipped with high resolution cameras.

Police could use this wide-area surveillance to track drug activity or possibly monitor police chases among other activities.

City officials told 2 News it can cover an area as large as Dayton's entire downtown but would only focus closely on specific areas with police instruction.
