Chick-fil-A backs off same sex stance

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - Chick-fil-A's owner might be changing his tune about same sex marriage.

It was announced Wednesday that the company will stop funding anti-gay groups that are against same sex marriage.

This is according to a statement released by the gay advocacy group The Civil Rights Agenda.

"Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena," Chick-fil-A wrote in an emailed statement to NBC News.

The chicken sandwich franchise started a firestorm this past summer when Chief Operating Officer, Dan Cathy, said his company was against same sex marriage.

Gay rights advocates fired back by refusing to eat at the chain and holding protests outside stores, including some here in the Miami Valley.
