Ash Wednesday blessing on the go

KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) - Drive-thru service usually means fast food or maybe picking up the drycleaning, but commemorating Ash Wednesday?

A Kettering church took advantage of the concept.  Parishioners didn't have to leave their car in order to mark the day.

David's United Church of Christ offered ash blessings on the go.

"People work.  People's kids have basketball games, have dance practices.  It's homework time for a lot of families. So, it's difficult to fit a service into a modern, post modern lifestyle," said Assoc. Pastor Daria Schaffnit, David's United Church of Christ.

This was the second year the church offered the drive thru on the first day of Lent.

Church leaders say they had so much positive feedback, they were happy to brave the chilly weather to bring the message to anyone willing to receive it.
