An icy commute before temperatures rise

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) - It was a morning where you could have better navigated the streets on a Zamboni machine than in a car.

But first, if you were one of the many who left a car parked outside overnight, 'Mother Nature's' layer of ice likely chipped away at your patience.

Though at times it was a challenge to stay on your feet, Stephanie Avery, safely enjoying a Waffle House breakfast, said she didn't mind the ice.

Jim Keyser, a volunteer rescue worker for Farmersville Fire Department was thankful his squad was not busier overnight.

"Actually, due to the pre-preps that the road departments did, most of the roads stayed fairly good through the night," Keyser said. "An uneventful night. We had no calls due to the weather."

But just as the Storm Team 2 Meteorologists predicted, the temperature started to rise around 8 a.m., and by mid-morning, icy roads were turning to slush.
