MIAMISBURG, Ohio (WDTN) - Public Health of Dayton and Montgomery County confirmed Friday that a Miamisburg teenager died from complications of the flu.

Tyler Sensenbrenner was an eighth grader at Miamisburg Middle School.

School Superintendent, Dr. David Vail, says counselors were on hand Friday to talk with the students.  The school also held a moment of silence in Tyler's memory.

"Tyler was a quiet young man who will be missed by everyone in the district and the community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this time," said Dr. Vail.

Dr. Vail says the school was notified of Tyler's death Thursday evening.

Public Health Information Officer, Bill Wharton, says Sensenbrenner's death is the first flu-related death recorded in Montgomery County this year.

He also notes that it is the first pediatric flu death since 2009 when records were first kept.

Tyler leaves behind his parents and a brother.

A webpage has been set up to help Tyler's family with expenses.   Click here.
