TROY, Ohio (WDTN) - It does not get much better than a lemonade stand on a hot summer day. However, one stand in Troy will quench more than just your thirst.
The Austin Family is hosting a benefit for Alex's Lemonade Stand. It is a nonprofit dedicated to pursuing a Pennsylvania girl's dream of ending childhood cancer - a thief that took her life in 2004 at the age of eight.
"I saw it on TV last year and it touched my heart," said Amanda Austin.
Mom Amanda says her family is not personally impacted by cancer, yet she felt inspired to help, especially as a parent. "Once we had a daughter of our own, I wanted to teach her the importance of helping others," she said.
So, she, her husband, and 2-year-old daughter Avery, are pouring their energy into the fight against cancer. They are also proving, perhaps, the recipe to sweet success is found along a country road, where the ingredients are simple, and sold one cup at at time.
"We're selling lemonade today to help kids," they said.
The lemonade stand will be open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday. They were also open Friday and say they saw lots of support. If you would like to swing by and support the cause, the stand is located at 916 Wilson Road in Troy.
