Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio (WDTN) - Civilian employees at Wright-Patterson will be given furlough notices Friday as part of the nationwide spending cuts known as sequestration.
While the specific dates the furloughs will be in place have not been decided, Col. Cassie B. Barlow tells 2 NEWS they will begin April 26 and end Sept. 25.
"Every supervisor will deliver a notice to an employee and they will have a personal conversation about that notice," said Col. Barlow. "We're trying to make it as real and as personable as possible".
Employees learned more about the measures the base is taking at a furlough informational fair Wednesday.
2 NEWS spoke with several civilian employees who tell us they’ve already modified their spending habits in preparation for the reduced pay associated with furloughs.
"I have an online budget tool that I use," said Rachel Castle, who works in the 88th Air Base Wing. I've been working with that daily, just looking at what I can cut out of my budget. What can I not do just to get through this time".
Tune in tonight beginning at 5 p.m. to hear Col. Barlow explain the process and to learn what the base is doing to mitigate the effects of the mandatory time off.
