FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - Fairborn police are investigating a shooting in their community that left three men injured.
Crews responded to a house at 1006 Victoria Avenue around 5:00 pm. Monday.
Police said five men forced their way into the house through the front door, but they were confronted by two men who lived there.
"The resident decided to fight back and shot two of the men," said Sergeant Paul Hicks, with the Fairborn Police Department.
A nearby resident who heard the gun shots called 911.
"I saw four men running out of the house, yelling hysterically at one another," said Bud Florkey. "One man told the others he had been shot, so I called for help."
Police and medics arrived to find one man shot inside the home, and the other lying in the road a block away from the home on Harvard Avenue.
"He was just lying in the middle of the road," said Tamara Ferguson, who lives on Harvard Avenue. "He was a young, black male."
Family members of those involved arrived soon after the shooting. One man identified himself as the stepfather of one of the men who lives at 1006 Victoria. He said all three of the men attend college at Wright State University and two of the three men have a permit to carry a concealed weapon.
Police could not confirm this information and were not able to release how many rounds were fired.
Investigators obtained a search warrant and spent hours combing through the home in search of any and all evidence, including a motive.
"Right now it appears to be an attempted aggravated robbery or burglary," said Sergeant Hicks. "We will know more after interviewing those involved."
Investigators took the three suspects uninjured in the shooting, as well as the two men who live at the house, into custody for questioning.
One of the two male residents suffered minor injuries as a result of the fight, according to police.
No arrests have been made as of 8:30 p.m. Monday.
The conditions of the two men shot are unclear; however, police confirm one man left with life threatening injuries.
Police are not identifying those involved at this time.
