BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (WDTN) - An elderly couple is dead after flames ripped through their home in Beavercreek early Sunday morning.
A neighbor first spotted sparks and smoke billowing from a house in the 2500 block of Wendover Drive around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.
When firefighters arrived, they found a one-story home, as well as a car in the driveway, fully engulfed in the flames.
While fighting the flames, crews found one man inside the home. He was rushed to Miami Valley Hospital for smoke inhalation where he later died. Firefighters also found a female victim inside the home who was dead when they arrived.
Neighbors identified the victims as Jerry and Bessie Starr. An online property search confirmed Jerry Starr to be the homeowner.
Officials stated there were no smoke detectors in the home.
The State Fire Marshal has been called in to handle the investigation. Crews said it's not clear what caused the fire.
