Baker Middle School teacher placed on paid administrative leave

FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - A Fairborn City Schools teacher is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation, according to district officials.

Scott Dammeyer teaches math at Baker Middle School.  He's been with the district for 11 years and was placed on leave December 6.  That's when district officials said Dammeyer was involved in a classroom incident at the school.

2 News contacted Fairborn Police, who released a report filed at the school by its resource officer on December 10th.  The narrative reads on December 6 officers were dispatched on reports a teacher unlawfully restrained a student.  The charges under investigation list unlawful restraint and disorderly conduct.  Scott Dammeyer's name is not on this report because he has not been charged with any crime, said investigators. 
    

That very same day, on December 6th, the district's superintendent placed the math teacher on paid administrative leave.  Superintendent Dave Scarberry isn't commenting further on the matter, but released Dammeyer's personnel file because it is a public record.

The first page was a copy of a letter written by the Superintendent to Dammeyer advising he had been placed on paid administrative leave.

2 News contacted the "Reportee" listed on the police report.  The person identified herself as the mother of a student and said she helped file the report on behalf of her 7th grade son.  She would not comment any further.

2 News also contacted Dammeyer.  He said he had a lawyer and was advised to not make any comment, but did release a verbal statement, "This incident is being painted in one light, but I appreciate the support from the public via e-mail, Facebook and text."

2 News dug deeper into Dammeyer's history. It shows he was disciplined back in 2007 following an incident involving a student.  The teacher was recommended to complete anger management training and classroom management mentoring.

Officials said three separate investigations are on-going; Fairborn police, the school district, and the Ohio Department of Education Office of Professional Conduct.  Officials were not able to give a timetable on these investigations.
