Drought can't stop a corny tradition

FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - The nationwide drought is taking its toll on Miami Valley corn crops, but it isn't drying up a summer tradition.

The drought means you'll likely be paying higher prices at the store for corn, but for those running the Sweet Corn Festival in Fairborn this weekend, it means business as usual.

Organizers say they've been able to avoid any shortages.

Brentlinger Farms contracts with the festival to provide the sweet corn.  It used more water this year than ever before to keep the crop going strong.

"He plants these fields so they'll be ripe for the festival and he irrigates," said Sue Red, Sweet Corn Festival. "It will be just as good as always."

The festival is Saturday from 11:00 am until 7:00 pm. and Sunday from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm at Community Park in Fairborn.
