Cuts mean "hairy" situation for some

FAIRBORN, Ohio (WDTN) - They know a thing or two about cuts at the Hairport Hair Dressers, but this time what's being taken is more than just a little off the top.

"When it affects the base it is a big thing in this town," says Hairport owner Connie Finton.

The Hairport will have been landing customers in Fairborn for 30 years this April, so it knows that when the base gets buzzed so do local businesses.

"Everybody," Connie says. "It's not going to just affect hair places. Every place, every service is going to cut back."

Because with up to 14,000 furloughed base workers losing chunks of their checks due to sequestration, they'll have less money to spend on everything else.

"They're going to cut back and wait longer between haircuts and colors and perms," Connie says.

With the furloughs spread over the next few months, the impact won't be immediate, but eventually the soaking will come.

"It will add up in the end," Connie says.

So the Hairport is trying to color these cuts as best it can and help its customers through what can only be described as a hairy situation.

"Trying to do the best we can and keep them happy," Connie says. "Do a little extra conditioners and trim on the back of the neck free. Just keep them in here."
