CEDARVILLE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) - The quarry on Gravel Pit Road in Cedarville Township has always been a popular spot for trespassers to swim and drink.
In recent years, the illegal recreation has slowed down, but not stopped.
On Sunday, the Greene County Sheriff's office received an anonymous phone call from someone directing them to the location.
"Obviously someone has placed this body here and that in and of itself is suspicious," said Major Eric Spicer with the Greene County Sheriff's Office. "Just now need to determine who it is and all the other facts that brought us here".
Major Eric Spicer would not release any information about the victim or how long they appear to have been dead.
An autopsy was performed Monday afternoon, however Greene County Coroner's officials said they are also still investigating and would not release any details.
"There are not a whole lot of doors to knock on," added Major Spicer. "We will have several challenges in trying to bring this case to a close".
Chuck Wilson lives in the only house on Gravel Pit Road, across from the quarry, and says the seclusion makes it a popular spot for undesirable activity. That is why he always keeps his eyes open.
"I saw a car down there on Thursday," added Wilson. "He was only in there like half an hour. I didn't pay any attention to him".
At this point, officials said they don't have any suspects.
If you have any information that could help deputies with the investigation call Crime Stoppers at 222-7867.
